We were there to see the ASTROS Win!!!

I don't really follow the Astros, but when we were offered great seats at a great price (FREE!!), I thought it would be a fun outing for the whole family! So we were planning to get there early and take advantage of our seats right behind the Astros dugout, but that didn't happen and we got there slightly after the game started (which is typical for us :-)). The seats were actually Great and we were very close to the action on the field. It was fun to be that close.
They jumped right up on these balls at the entrance.

Emma was so excited to see the cotton candy man. Everyone around us knew that was why she came to the game!

It really was all about the cotton candy!

We decided it was time to leave after the 4th inning. All the scoring had pretty much happened and the kids were pretty well done with the cotton candy. The Astros had made several hits and a couple of home runs even. There was also one of those exciting throw/run back & forth between 1st & 2nd base. It ended up with the Astro guy getting out but it was very close and fun to watch...also very loud according to Emma.

Right before we left, the Chick-fil-A cows and people came out to say Hi and throw t-shirts out. I made a grab for one and although I had my hand on it, so did someone else and I let it go. I ended up with a bad bruise on my leg and scraped up foot in the effort. Oh well maybe next time!
The only player I really recognized from when we used to go to the games more often. Lance Berkman. He had a good game too!

Blue Bell creamery tour

We recently took a road trip with our friends Catherine & Caroline to the big town of Brenham TX to tour the Blue Bell Creamery. It was a fun drive and then for I think $3 a person, we bought a ticket to tour the factory that makes the famous & yummy ice cream!
Here we are waiting for the tour to start and trying on the cute hats.

There were no cameras allowed on the tour...so no inside trade secrets would be shared. The kids did pretty well paying attention to what was happening and waiting for the tour guide to talk. It was actually fascinating learning and watching the process of making and packaging the many, many buckets of ice cream they ship out a day! But truthfully, the best part was when we got to the end where we got to try a sample of ice cream in the flavor of our choice! Caroline had rainbow, Sammy had his favorite Vanilla and somehow Emma ended up with 2 cups of ice cream (chocolate & rainbow)...and she really tried to eat both of them too!

It was all good and then we shopped in the gift shop for a few trinkets, posed for a few photos outside and then went to eat at a nearby sandwich shop. It was a great event and the kids had a fun time!

Visit with Pop - Father's day

For Father's Day, we celebrated in the morning with Daddy and then took off for a drive to Waco to visit my dad, Pop, and my sister & her family who were coming in for the day too. It was about 103 degrees and was a very stifling heat. We had to wait for it to cool down a little to go to the pool!! But then we went and wow! it was soooo refreshing! Everyone enjoyed getting in and cooling off!

Later on, we headed up to the Elite Cafe on the circle to celebrate father's day for Pop. YUM!

Happy Fathers Day dad! We love ya!!

News Flash: Simply Sassy is now available at Magpies on Bellaire!!

Today is very exciting for Simply Sassy! The first official store display is up and ready for ordering at the Magpies Gifts Store on Bellaire Blvd in Houston! The ladies in the shop are so sweet and helpful with everything. They have tons of cute gift items and were so sweet to stock some inventory and put up a display as well. Hopefully we'll be taking lots of orders there! I am also planning to work with the Magpies location in Sugar Land soon to get a display in that store as well!

How does your garden grow??

Exciting Growth! The corn is getting HIGH! Sammy is jumping high to see if he is taller than the corn.

Emma found some little ears of corn growing on some of those corn trees. Maybe they'll get bigger and we'll get to eat some in a month or so!
The tomatoes are blooming and we have had a few of the grape tomatoes ripen. Waiting on the larger "better boy" tomatoes...

Emma's Prize Winning Reading

Emma has been working on learning to read for a few months. She sometimes likes to do her lesson but most of the time, there is something better to do. So, recently, when she was asking for a particular rolling dog toy (that her friend Caroline has and she plays with for the whole time she visits her), I had the bright idea to get her to "earn" it. She had to do as many lessons as the prize costs in dollars. So she was at 14 lessons that we had stickers for and she needed about 14 more to earn the toy dog. What was really exciting is that by the end of that prize winning lesson, she was actually reading all the words in the little story! We are so proud and she is starting to really love reading and doing the lessons!!
Here's the book we are using to learn to read. It focuses mostly on sounds and has an interesting way of introducing sounds in a "logical" way for learning. The Pooh book is for the writing practice. I got it at the dollar store.
Emma was sooooo excited about getting to get her Spot out of the box! The box arrived a few days before she completed the lessons, so then we had a new lesson to learn: PATIENCE.
She loves Spot so much she wants to sleep with it... for now. ;-)

Memorial Day @ Sweetwater

The first chance to get some pool time this summer...we headed to the Sweetwater pool for the Memorial Day pool party. The highlight was getting to go in the deep pool with daddy. Emma does the cutest happy dance and I caught it on camera!

So what happened to Sammy?
He didn't want to come out of the pool to eat, so that's the look we got for trying to get him to eat his hotdog! Hee hee. Otherwise he was happy though!
